Vacancy Announcement: Research Assistants + Project Assistants

PD Dr. habil. Elena Semenova at the Cologne Center for Comparative Politics (CCCP) is looking for Research Assistants and Project Assistants

 

Research Assistants (10 hours per week each)

The desired start date is 1 November 2023. The research assistant will support the international project "Institutional rules and their effects on cabinet and ministerial durability in advanced democracies" (funded by the German Research Foundation).

Tasks include:

  • collection, coding, and preparation of biographical data
  • assistance with data analysis
  • support in the organization of workshops and conferences
  • support in literature research

Prerequisites:

  • MA student in social/political science
  • confident in the use of Office Programs
  • very good knowledge of English spoken and written is required
  • knowledge of another western language (e.g. French), Asian (e.g. Japanese) or Eastern European language are desired
  • very good knowledge of STATA (and SPSS or R)
  • good knowledge of Data preparation
  • good knowledge of quantitative Methods

We offer:

  • Pay according to standards of the University of Cologne for research assistants: at the moment 13,20 Euro/hour for students with a Bachelor degree.
  • Chance to gain first-hand experience in a current research project
  • Opportunity to improve quantitative research skills
  • Participation in an international research team

Project Assistants

The project assistants will support the German-Portuguese project "Experts, power, and democracy: The rise of technocracy in Europe" (funded by the German Academic Exchange Service and Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia under the Project-Based Exchange of Persons program).

Requirements:

  • MA student (with very good grades).
  • very good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • very good knowledge of quantitative data analysis
  • very good knowledge of STATA (and SPSS or R).

Project responsibilities include:

  • two research visits to the University of Lisbon (Portugal).
  • active participation in data preparation and data analysis
  • active participation in the preparation and publication of project results
  • active participation in joint workshops
  • support in the preparation of international workshops at the University of Cologne

The benefits of participating in the project include:

  • to improve the knowledge of quantitative methods

The position of a project assistant is unpaid. The project covers the travel and accommodation expenses of project assistants at the University of Lisbon.
